The practice by Seth Godin ( A Summary)

Can we control the outcome of any action we have undertaken? No. Can we guarantee an outcome. Again no. We may be overconfident of the result. But it can only lead to hubris. Our arrogance compels us to make costly mistakes.

What should we do then? Author Seth Godin suggests that we place our trust in The Practice. What is The Practice? “The Practice is a persistent stepwise approach that we pursue for its own sake and not because we want anything guaranteed in return”.

The question arises then how do we survive? We got to make money ,right? The results will come if you give your all to the practice. If you focus on the outcome, the practice will suffer. Any attachment to the outcome will generate anxiety. And this will reduce the quality of your output.

The Practice advises that we work with generosity and intent. Our work should contribute to betterment in other people’s lives. If you keep doing your work consistently, many opportunities will open up for you.

Do not look for approval or applause. Do not seek Reassurance from others. Do not aim for certainty. Or else the creative process will suffer.

The Practice implies that we “concentrate on serving others”.

We must develop an understanding of the Genre of the work we are doing. Our outlook must be to serve, to find solutions for others’ problems. This is true selling.

The Practice entails that we do not produce work for the masses. And we should not make an attempt to please everybody.   We have a niche audience, just like our Genre.

The Practice  inspires you to become the best in your Genre. “ The best opportunities come to those who are hard to replace”.

The secret of The Practice is to work every day, consistently. And keep raising the bar.

Isaac Asimov wrote over 400 books because he sat down everyday without exception.

“Avoid shortcuts. Seek the most direct path instead”.

The Practice encompasses curiosity, generosity and connection. Your work becomes an Art when these attributes are assimilated with it.

Everyone should read this fabulous book. The English is simple and the style conversational.
